my take on film ‘Mausam’
one of those pure love story which we haven’t seen in Bollywood for quite some time => 3/5
From the promos the expectation of Mausam was high…… music was already hit & Pankanj Kapoor’s first movie as director. But when movie was released it didn’t get enough appreciation from the critics. So I didn’t watch the movie first week. But my brother watched it & he told me that its good movie. So finally this weekend I watched it…& good that I didn’t go by critic’s reviews.
During the first 40 minutes…the movie is so fresh, natural & very very enjoyable. Everything is good during initial 40 minutes…punjab, song, performance…everything. And at that time I thought that movie is so good till now then why critics were so harsh in their reviews ?
Performance by all actors is very good specially Shahid Kapoor. He is raising his bar with every new film. Sonam Kapoor looks so beautiful & I love her screen name ‘Aayat’. Also the cinematography, music ..everything is excellent.
But the movie isn’t flawless. And only flaw it has is a very big flaw…. The Length (editing). There are at-least couple of sequence in 2nd half which needed lot of trimming.
#1. Airforce scenes.. They started focussing more on how air force looks like, what they do etc…but then this wasn’t war movie. This was a love story..so they should should have edited the entire air force sequence to 2-3 minutes showing the final accident related scene.
#2. Shahid saving child in the final scene. When Shahid & Sonam finally meet in riots, the movie should have ended there itself. It could have saved atleast 10-12 minutes. The central theme was lead pair weren’t able to meet each other. And once they finally meet…then message of showing hero saving a girl from riots didn’t gel at all with the central theme.
Editing above two scenes would have reduced at-least 20 minutes from the movie.
But even with it’s slow pace… I would still recommend to watch Mausam. It is one of those pure love story which we haven’t seen in Bollywood for quite some time, Mausam (minus the length) will make you want to fall in love again.
