Film Review: Chaalis Chauraasi :- 2*

‘Chaalis Chauraasi’ :- 2*

You have a start cast of all seasoned actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Kay Kay Menon, Atul Kulkarni, Ravi Kissen, Rajesh Sharma (inspector of NOKJ), Zakir Hussain (Sarkar villian), Manoj Pahwa
Then you also have a great story which has lots of twists, funny moments…

Just when I thought, nothing can go wrong from here, I realized that Director is captain of the film. And even with such a great cast & good story….a bad director can ruin the film. This is exactly what happened with ‘Chaalis Chauraasi’

Before interval, the movie is so pathetic, directionless that you will almost walk out of theatre or swtichoff your DVD. But if you manage to stay till interval, then trust me…. post interval this is fantastic movie & extremely entertaining till the end.
If I have to rate this film then I will give 0* for pre-Interval & 4* post interval. Rarely I have seen a movie which is totally diff before & after interval… i.e extremely boring in 1st half & extremely entertaining in 2nd half.

The story is about 4 men who plan to raid a place by becoming fake cops, to rob it of 20crores. But their plan turn into their worst nightmare as they end up caught themselevs in real encounter with some other gangsters.

I know its not the best of the film but I will still recommend watching it…only for the entertaining 2nd half, great performance & also if you want to hear evergreen disco ‘hawa hawa…ey hawa’ once again :)

Film Review: PLAYERS :- 2.5 *

‎’PLAYERS’

Like Abbas-Mastan’s earlier films Race, Bazigar, Khiladi… Players doesn’t have the same thrill, twist or comedy. It is predictable initially but just before the interval twists and turns start spilling. Plus there is frequent dose of laughter here & there.

Except Bipasha Basu, Neil Nitin Mukesh, rest of the cast is just ok. And the biggest let down of the film is Pritam’s music .. total dud.

But the truth is despite all the downside, I enjoyed the movie.
May be because even with all the flaws, it’s still not bad film to watch. The locations in film are lovely & overall look of the film is super slick.

You’ll probably enjoy Players too if you don’t think much about predictable 1st half.

In 2011, a total of 130 hindi films got released & I managed to watch 107 films !!
Pata nahi ye baaki ki 23 films muzhse kese bach gayi :)
I have added my review of each of the films I saw.
As it is obvious that I am movie buff…so feel free to comment if you agree or don’t agree with any of my ratings. Did I underrate any of your fav film? Or do you think I overrate any film which is bad according to you?

my take on film ‘Mausam’

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

one of those pure love story which we haven’t seen in Bollywood for quite some time => 3/5

From the promos the expectation of Mausam was high…… music was already hit & Pankanj Kapoor’s first movie as director. But when movie was released it didn’t get enough appreciation from the critics. So I didn’t watch the movie first week. But my brother watched it & he told me that its good movie. So finally this weekend I watched it…& good that I didn’t go by critic’s reviews.

During the first 40 minutes…the movie is so fresh, natural & very very enjoyable. Everything is good during initial 40 minutes…punjab, song, performance…everything. And at that time I thought that movie is so good till now then why critics were so harsh in their reviews ?
Performance by all actors is very good specially Shahid Kapoor. He is raising his bar with every new film. Sonam Kapoor looks so beautiful & I love her screen name ‘Aayat’.  Also  the cinematography, music ..everything is excellent.
But the movie isn’t flawless. And only flaw it has is a very big flaw…. The Length (editing). (more…)

my take on ‎’Mere Brother ki Dulhan’

Monday, September 26th, 2011

‎’Mere Brother ki Dulhan’ :- There was nothing new in movie……
Many scenes in the movie are copy of other bollywood films. Like Imran Khan’s bhabhi hunting sequence is directly copied from Katrina’s hubby hunting in ‘Namste London’..which itself was copied from Rang De Basanti’s actor hunt in college…..OK..let’s not dig it further..

Coming back to this movie…it is strictly for those who enjoy this ‘bored to death’ formula of ’sugar coated’ yashraj films wala romance. (more…)

Film Review:- ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

Laugh Out Loud ====> 3/5

Even before the release, Yamla Pagla Deewana (YPD) got lots of +ve buzz because of
1. one of the best promos in recent times,
2. all 3 Deols coming together & that too in a comedy film instead of action film.

Honestly I wasn’t sure if the movie will able meet the expecations raised by excellent promos. But YPD is entertaining & a paisa vasool movie. Director Sameer Karnik has very effective used both onscreen & offscreen images of Deol family. An he makes it clear that all these ‘over the top’ comedy scenes are intentionally added & not forced into script.

The first half of the movie is just okay, which is about NRI (Sunny Deol) from Canada comes to Banaras in search of his lost Father-Brother((Dharmendra-Bobby) who are local thug.
But it is the 2nd half which is main reason why this film is worth watching. Unlike many films that lose interest in 2nd half, YPD gains momentum post interval as all characters arrive in Punjab. (more…)

Film Review :- ‘No One Killed Jessica’

Thursday, January 13th, 2011
A very good film to watch => 3/5
Disclaimer :- This is adult movie, so avoid kids

Most of us are aware of how Sabrina Lal, Jessica’s elder sister, fought with system in order to get justice for the death of her sister, who was shot dead by a politicina’s son.
So for films like these where audience is already aware of the story, it is very important to have momemntum going on. And specially for such sensitive subject, there is little scope to add bollywood masala into it.

1. Director Rajkumar Gupta, whose previous film ‘Aamir’ was awesome, did good job again in NOKJ.

2. The first half of the movie is brilliant, realistic. Some of the scenes were brilliant like ….Jessica shot at point blank range or Police officer interogating accused or how killers are going for VeshnoDevi trip & at the same time Sabrina’s mother dies.

3. But I was disaapointed by the 2nd half where (more…)
